Where can we find you when you’re not working?
When not at work, you will find me at home in Mineral Virginia at our home on Lake Anna, entertaining family and friends, boating, jet skiing, tubing.

What would you like patients to know about you?
I enjoy my job, my patients, my boss, and co-workers.
I commute over an hour each way to be at Grove Avenue Family Dentistry.
I could work much closer to home, but this is more than a place to work – its true family dentistry.

What is your favorite part of the job?
Getting to know patients and their families. In one family I see 4 generations from child, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother as well as aunts and uncles.
Also working with Dr. Adams and Phavy for the past 18 years.

Where did you grow up?
I grew up in Burlington NC, and got my BS in Dental Hygiene from UNC-Chapel Hill.

I enjoy spending time with family and friends and taking my dog Colgate for walks.

I grew up in Powhatan, VA and I now reside in Mechanicsville, VA

Where can we find you when you’re not working?
I can either be found in the kitchen baking or on the front porch with a cup of coffee reading! I love to read Amish fiction! One of my patients introduced me to them and I’m hooked!

Where did you grow up?
I grew up in Owensboro KY. BBQ capital of the world! Boy, do I miss that stuff! Always have to have some mutton when we go back to visit!!! Or have it brought to us when someone visits from there!

Tell us about your family.
I have been married to my wonderful husband for 22 years and have 2 awesome children, Luke and Molly. We belong to the Church of Christ and have a wonderful congregation we have belonged to since moving to Richmond 18 years ago.

I wanted to be able to connect with people on a personal level and make a difference in their lives.

What is your favorite part of the job?
I love knowing that Grove Avenue Family & Cosmetic Dentistry’s dental hygiene team strives to create a patient- centered environment where optimum preventative care is provided.

How do you spend your time outside of work (hobbies/interests)?
Currently, I love to explore all of what RVA has to offer with my family. I’m a huge foodie. I like to try all the mom and pop places, especially with the farm fresh to table concept. I consider myself a coffee snob and will either have Lamplighter or Blanchard’s Quirk Blend in my thermos at work. Xander’s favorite family destination is the Richmond City Zoo, so he can feed the Giraffes, and local farmer’s Market, so he can devour a Mrs. Yoder’s doughnut.

Areas of Interest Include:
Im passionate about providing patients the necessary education and tools to better their oral health , and ensuring that they are aware that oral health is important to their overall oral health.

Where did you grow up?
Hmmm…. everywhere. I’m an Army brat. My childhood consisted of moving all over the US and overseas. It helped me become who I am and taught me to never judge a book by it’s cover. I wouldn’t trade it for the world.

What would you like patients to know about you?
I’m a very caring person, I always try to keep a smile on my face no matter what challenges are in my way. I’m bilingual in Spanish and English. I also speak Guarani which is the Native Language in Paraguay. I’ve been working with Dr. Adams since 2001 before we became Grove Avenue Family and Cosmetic Dentistry. I started as a Dental Assistant. In 2007 I was accepted into VCU Dental Hygiene program and returned back after graduation.

What is your favorite part of the job?
I enjoy interacting and meeting new people, typically most patients come twice a year and this gives me a chance to build a relationship with them. It’s very rewarding to help patients accomplish their oral health goals. I like to help patients live a healthier life because the mouth is the gateway to the rest of the body.

How do you spend your time outside of work (hobbies/interests)?
I love spending time with my family, mainly outdoors. I like to read. I enjoy learning about new cultures from around the world. I like to decorate cakes and collect rocks and crystals.

Where did you grow up?
I was born in Paraguay – South America. I was raised between Asuncion – Paraguay and Chesterfield County, VA.

My favorite memory was from Hygiene school. I had an older female patient and I revealed to her it was my birthday. After her appointment I went to the waiting room to find she had written me a Birthday note calling me ” the best Hygienist she had ever had “.

One of my main interest in my field is assisting in surgeries.

I love to spend my weekends with my family either at the river fishing in the summer or at home watching football on a sunday in the winter.

I have been married for 8 years and have two beautiful children, A son named Brayden who is 10 and a daughter named Addison who is 7.

What are you passionate about?
I love food! Love to cook food, read about food, watch cooking shows on TV and most importantly, I love to eat food. Although, I try not to talk about food while I’m eating because that is just poor manners.

What’s your favorite way to spend a weekend or a Sunday afternoon?
My favorite way to spend a weekend is at the Rivah with my kids and family. Sitting out on the deck looking out at the Chesapeake Bay, swimming, walking on the beach and collecting sea glass and arrowheads, and listening to music in the evening watching all the kids play games and run around. Doing home improvements. Teaching group fitness classes at Youfit. I love music and gardening.

What are you passionate about?
I am passionate about being a mother. My main joy in life is spending time with my children. I can always find someway to fit them in every topic of conversation.

Where can we find you when you’re not working?
When I am not working you can find me at the ball field. I love the sports of Softball and Baseball.

Any awards or medals, or even medallions?
I was inducted into the Hall of Fame at my High School for Softball. It was such a grant honor and hope one day when my children are old enough to understand will be proud of their mommy for such an accomplishment.

Don’t sweat the small stuff…not always good at it, but it’s something I try to remember!

Sunji Hudson: Treatment Coordinator

What are you passionate about personally?
Personally, my passion is getting to know the deaf population through my volunteer ministry work. My eventual goal is to work internationally with the deaf. On a lighter note, I also really enjoy working out in the dirt trying to coax my plants to grow.

Where did you grow up?
I grew up 35 miles east of Atlanta, Georgia in a small town called Covington. The show “In the Heat of the Night” was filmed in that town.
